Summer camp is an ideal place in which to develop a “green” perspective. In this setting, campers are presented with a unique opportunity to consider their relationship with the natural world and how they may influence the future condition of the planet.
At Glen Bernard, this concept is expressed through the motto “Live Lightly”.
Living more lightly on the earth includes our emphasis on environmentally-friendly programs, equipment and facilities:
- Kosmos, a three-storey, solar-powered building where campers develop skills in earth education
- Composting toilet facilities, solar water heaters, low-energy exterior LED lighting system
- “The Loon”, a solar-powered pontoon boat, the first of it’s kind in Canada
The informal Sunday gathering led by campers and staff focuses on messages that encourage campers to maximize their experiences at GBC.
At Glen Bernard there is a high regard for things that form a universal language - the sound of waves against the shore, the rustle of wind in the trees, the stillness at sunset, a smile.
