Outdoor Centre
Overview

Outdoor CentreWelcome to the class room without walls! Glen Bernard Outdoor Centre welcomes school groups from across Ontario to come learn to Live Lightly. Visiting groups take their outdoor education experience to the next level with our well developed program and exceptional facilities. We provide the opportunity for students to develop confidence and leadership skills through curriculum-based activities that focus on team-building and environmental awareness. Our facilities provide students with hands on learning experience that they would otherwise not have access to in a classroom setting.

Outdoor CentreOur exceptional staff lead and facilitate lessons covering Geography, Science, Physical Education, Earth and Space Science, and Environmental Sciences units for grades 5-12. We take pride in the many sustainable features we have to offer, including our solar powered boat, composting toilets, solar-powered buildings, green rooftop garden, and solar hot water systems.

Our Living Lightly Lab provides the perfect setting to learn about the applications of renewable energy and sustainability, as the building runs entirely on solar energy. In addition to this, the Living Lightly Lab is constructed with renewable source materials, has two types of rooftop gardens, and a sophisticated weather monitoring system that the students can study. Whether students are measuring the energy consumption of everyday appliances, or learning about solar and hydrogen cars through experimentation with our own working toy models, they will find themselves engaged in a hands on learning environment at Glen Bernard Outdoor Centre.

Outdoor CentreIn addition to curriculum based options, we also offer countless other outdoor activities that foster independence and self-confidence, as well as strong team building skills. These activities include: high ropes course, canoeing, kayaking, low ropes challenge course, astronomy, hiking trails, tennis, basketball, beach volleyball, archery, trampoline, wilderness skills, group initiative challenges, and rock climbing.
